Description:

  • Overview of the spectrum of Disordered Eating (EDNOS) to Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Symptoms and Effects, and recent changes to the DSM-5
  • Review of prevalence, gender and age considerations
  • Discussion on warning signs and body image
  • Discussion on the factors contributing to the development and function of an Eating Disorder
  • Discussion on the sensitivities of Intake and Assessment
  • Review of the stages of change and how they appear in Eating Disorders
  • Overview of modalities used in treating Eating Disorders and discussion on an integrated approach to treatment
  • Discussion on a team approach and resources
  • Case studies are woven throughout

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will have a general understanding of the diagnostic criteria and features of Eating Disorders and EDNOS
  • Participants will be able to describe the warning signs of an Eating Disorder
  • Participants will have an understanding of the various factors contributing to the development of Eating Disorders and learn the best practices associated with treating them, including the specific tasks of intake and assessment
  • Participants will be provided with a broad spectrum of resources to draw upon, where they can obtain additional information

 

The Presenter:
Jacqueline Gautier, M.A.is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in the province of British Columbia who has been practicing in the area of Eating Disorders for over 20 years. She worked as a clinician at NARSF (Nanaimo Area Resource Services for Families) in the Ministry of Children and Family Development Eating Disorders program for youth 18 and under and their families, for over 6 years, and before that at Edgewood Treatment Centre for adults, specializing in adult Addictions and Eating Disorders. Currently Jacqueline has a private practice where she helps youth and their families, and adults with Eating Disorders. Jacqueline consults with and provides seminars for many private and provincial organizations on the subject and also acts as a clinical supervisor for graduate students of psychology. She collaborates extensively with the Edgewood Treatment Centre, Nanaimo, Woodstone Eating Disorder Treatment Centre on Galiano Island and the Eating Disorders Clinic at the University of Victoria (VIHA). She has had extensive training in many theoretical modalities and uses an integrated approach to therapy. For example she employs modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing (Levine Institute Certification Program), Expressive Arts Therapy, Family-Based Therapy and Narrative Therapy to name a few. She creates a client-centered treatment plan unique for each situation.
